What are the 3 main parts of lathe machine?

A lathe machine consists of three main parts:

Bed:

The bed is the horizontal base of the lathe that provides support to other components. It is usually made of cast iron and serves as a foundation for the rest of the machine. The bed's rigidity and stability are essential for accurate machining.

Headstock:

The headstock is located on one end of the bed and houses the main spindle. The spindle rotates the workpiece and is driven by a motor. The headstock often includes mechanisms for controlling the spindle speed and direction, allowing for various cutting operations.

Tailstock:

The tailstock is positioned on the other end of the lathe bed, opposite the headstock. It provides support to the other end of the workpiece during machining. The tailstock typically contains a quill that can be extended or retracted, allowing for precise adjustments and holding tools like drill bits or centers.

These three main parts, along with other components such as the carriage, cross-slide, and tool post, collectively enable a lathe machine to perform a wide range of machining operations, including turning, facing, drilling, and threading.
